media and advertisement

I think that some of the stuff that the FCC has allowed to be on television is somewhat ridiculous. Almost all television shows have profanity, vulgarity, and show public displays of affection. I think that this is influencing the actions of young kids and teenagers.
The media publicizes just about everything now a days, anything from condoms, to profanity, and even Tiger Woods cheating on his wife. All of this is not needed to be published as frequent as it is. Because when it comes down to it no one really gives a crap one, and two there are bigger, more significant things in everyone’s life that we need to worry about.
Young kids and teenagers are influenced by everyone. Most of them also watch television most of their free time most of the time. So if they see a famous person or their role model on their favorite t.v. show smoking or having sex, then what do you think this influences them to do? Go out and do what they see is happening on that show.
I also do not think that it is necessary for every other commercial to be selling condoms or feminine products. Girls and women know about that stuff already and know where to buy it if they need it. Also by publicizing condoms it is not teaching people to be safe about sex but it is saying go out and do it, your okay as long as you use a condom, which really it is not okay to just go out and have sex.
Media sends mixed messages out to people so that they will buy products. I think that not only should commercials be more censored but also television shows.

  1. Interesting point, Kayli. I'm against censorship, but there is no denying your examples. I never watch TV, but when I do happen to flip by channels during prime time, I'm SHOCKED.
