umm.... i do?

in today's society over half of marriages are ending in divorce. an alarming rate of these divorces are due to the fact that people are getting married too young. when a girl is in her teenage years she is more vulnerable than she ever will be. so this is often leading them to believe that they are in love and that other person is the one that they are supposed to be with forever. well majority of the time they are very much wrong.
i think that marrying too young can be dangerous, not only physically but mentally. men who are also get married too young have no self confidence and this leads to being controlling of the girls and vice versa. being controlling can lead to abuse which is leading to divorce, if the woman is smart enough to get out. for example one of my best friends thought she was in love just because he was in the military so she waited for him, then left all of her family and friends to move states, got married, and is now no longer allowed to talk to any of us because he will get mad at her. the only reason she listens is because she is scared, scared he'll not only yell at her, but physically abuse her. also i had gone through the same incident over a year ago. me and this kid though we loved each other and got engaged. well after being together long enough i realized he was controlling my life and i was allowing it. i didn't hang out with friends, or do anything for myself. so even though i had to end it while he was over seas, it was a much needed thing, unless i wanted to move away, get married and live a miserable life.
these examples are only light compared to the other things that people have to go through. marrying too young can lead to danger and teenagers should really hold off on it. we have our whole lives to get married so why not just relax and live while you have the chance to do so.

the power of images

while using images in writing is a very powerful thing. images can be used for many different reasons. whether its to persuade, scare, shock, or influence.
images can be used for letting the reader know what the paper is going to be about. images can also be used for relating to something that is in the paper as well.
many writers will use images to scare their reader. and i don't mean just scare as in ghosts and goblins, even though they can be used for that. what i mean for example is a woman form the central Illinois area was arrested and did jail time for being addicted to meth. in the story about her they show a before and after picture of her from the use of drugs. writers will do this in order to scare people out of making the same mistakes that someone else once did.
writers will also use images that will go along with statistics they might have in their paper. sometimes these consist of pie charts, maps, and graph charts. some times they will use actual pictures to shock people like the bill board of drunk driving versus buzzed driving to show people that it is the same thing.
using images in your writing can play an important role for a paper. some examples of how writers use them are shown above. the use if images are used in many different ways and should be taken advantage of from all writers.

media and advertisement

I think that some of the stuff that the FCC has allowed to be on television is somewhat ridiculous. Almost all television shows have profanity, vulgarity, and show public displays of affection. I think that this is influencing the actions of young kids and teenagers.
The media publicizes just about everything now a days, anything from condoms, to profanity, and even Tiger Woods cheating on his wife. All of this is not needed to be published as frequent as it is. Because when it comes down to it no one really gives a crap one, and two there are bigger, more significant things in everyone’s life that we need to worry about.
Young kids and teenagers are influenced by everyone. Most of them also watch television most of their free time most of the time. So if they see a famous person or their role model on their favorite t.v. show smoking or having sex, then what do you think this influences them to do? Go out and do what they see is happening on that show.
I also do not think that it is necessary for every other commercial to be selling condoms or feminine products. Girls and women know about that stuff already and know where to buy it if they need it. Also by publicizing condoms it is not teaching people to be safe about sex but it is saying go out and do it, your okay as long as you use a condom, which really it is not okay to just go out and have sex.
Media sends mixed messages out to people so that they will buy products. I think that not only should commercials be more censored but also television shows.

expressions

There are many ways to express your feelings. I am not good at expressing how I feel. I am a person with a lot of opinions but majority of the time I am too nice to say how I really feel about people or things. I think that expressing feelings are an important way of writing. When someone expresses their self in their paper it sets the tone and lets the reader know that they are serious about what they are arguing. In my next paper I am going to talk about tanning and why I think it is not as bad as it seems. also in the paper I am going to talk about the new 10% tax law that Obama put in any tanning products that a person buys. I think that the best way to get my point across would be to argue my side and set my tone for the whole paper.
I also think that by expressing your views in a paper is really important. It’s always nice to have reliable sources but by showing how you feel about the subject can help people relate to what it is that you are talking about. I think that stuff like this is an important piece of writing.

Video Games

There have been many controversies lately about violent video games and whether or not they are bad for young kids and teenagers. Well I think that It does affect them, but it’s not just the video games fault it the parents. I think it is unhealthy for young kids and teenagers to just sit inside all day long. What happened to looking forward to summer so you can go ride your bike or building snow men in the winter? The perfect example is my younger step brother who is like 13 or 14. Every day he wakes up and plays video games, gets home from school and plays video games, stays up all night to play video games. The video games haven’t made him violent or anything which is good, but his vocabulary only consists of a few words, with “fuck” being number one. The rest are followed by other curse words. I never see him do homework and the last I knew he was failing a subject. But it’s not just because of the video games, but also because of the discipline that he doesn’t receive. His father lets him say and do what he wants when he wants and as far as I know his mom woks late and also comes home and plays video games. I think that there should be a distinct time to where there should be homework and chores done and another time for playing. It is unhealthy for kids to sit in front of a television or computer all day. It is impacting their learning abilities, and also it hurts their eyes. Also people always say that the youth is our future, so is this what our future is going to contain?

paper 1

This first paper was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. When I first started out it was hard to think of a topic. Once I started writing it didn’t take long because I think it is easier to just get it all done with at one time instead of stopping and having to continue with it later. I really like how we get to pick any topic we like because I think it’s easier to write about things I am interested in rather than be given a topic to write about. I also think that the endorsement groups are helpful because I feel like they pick up the pieces in order to make the papers better and I like how they catch little things that may have been missed. I am also glad I got it over with before spring break so that way I didn’t have to work on it while I was on vacation. I think that the writing criteria was pretty easy for it and I think that the worst paper will be the one where it has to be formatted as an editorial.

lifes better blonde

every one knows the classic joke... "why do blonde's" or "how many blondes." well the truth is blondes are not any more dumb than any other color of hair. the only reason that people think so is because of these jokes that people made up. and the only reason blondes are good at playing the part is because they are allowed to and can get away with it easier. this is because if people already think that a blonde is dumb and make fun of them for it then they will step in and act dumb when truthfully they re not really dumb.
i know a lot of people who are blonde and majority of them do act dumb and act like they don't have any common sense. but usually they do.
also a lot of times if they do make a mistake or say or do something dumb they blame it on their hair color because they are allowed to because many people see them as being dumb anyways.
really though, people who have blonde hair are not any dumber or smarter than a person with brown, red or black hair. how smart you are does not come from what color hair you have, but how well you may apply yourself. so the next time you think about telling a blonde joke, think again, because the joke may be on you.

paper one

When i realized how fast the papers were coming up it made me panic. i think its hard to pick a random topic and write about it. there are so many topics in the world to write about and then to have to narrow it down is actually more difficicult then i thought it was going to be. so the first topic that i decided to write about is something that used to be a big controversy, but really doesnt get brought up too much anymore: womens rights in the workplace and discrimination.
this is an important topic to me because i get treated like shit at the place where i work. all of the guys think they can talk to me and treat me however hey damn well please and its completely disrespectful and rude.
in this paper i started out by using background information and statisitics on what the full time working woman used to make compared to a man, and then what the full time working woman makes to a man now. and surprisingly it is still 23 cents less to a mans whole dollar. So, this is something i feel wound catch any womans attention and draw them into wanting to read the paper.
then i also put my own experience in and talked about how there is sex discrimination at my job and what they do that i cant. i also put other peoples experience and stories in and talked about what was said in the interview that i conducted. also i found information with peoples stories and how they have sewed people for sex and race discrimination in the workplace. it happens alot more than people may realize. many people think it has died and that there isnt any discrimination, but there in fact still is.

blog 3: what if?....

I am sure that many, if not all of everyone has heard the claims that the world is going to end in 2012. well no matter how much evidence the people think they have and even though they think that since the Mayan calender is the world is going to end. well i just absolutely don't believe it. i don't understand the reasoning that a calender ending, the world is ending. why don't they just make a new calender? i don't think that any one can predict that for our future and even so i think that there is more evidence needed. i think that by now there would be more factual evidence and scientists would be able to tell by the activities of the earth.
Even though i don't believe this will actually happen, i cant help but wonder what if. like what if the world is going to end, it makes me rethink what i am doing with my life. should i be going to school, or am i paying out the ass for no reason. should i be focusing on a future i might not have, or should i be more concerned with what is happening as of right now? should i be living for the moment and not care or should i be cracking down to get a 4.0. i think that if the world was actually going to end they wouldn't still be encouraging people to do something with their lives. i think that since the movie "2012" came out it persuaded people that this is actually going to happen and that is how its going to be. well we have too much technology to not know that its actually going to happen and when and how and all that movie was, was a Hollywood stunt and a couple millions in special effects.
so what if the world is going to end? is it all just a big mishap for attention from the world or will it really happen. well i don't believe it will and wont until i see proof for myself.

blog #3

i think that in school and out of school writing can and have become two totally differen things. when i write in school i take me time. i use full words, i dont use abbreviations, and i actually make sense out of what i am writing. its easier to write papers for school than if i was to have to do a paper for example a reseme or job application. i think that writing out of school has become pure laziness, for example texting. texting is one of the biggest forms of writing and reading people do now a days. and i know off first hand that no one sends full out words in texts, there is always an abbreviation for a word in order to make the text shorter.
i think this is becoming harmful to the youths learning skills. this is because for one, they are not learning the proper way to spell and write, which coul dreally influence their future. lets say for example, they have to give a big speech in order to pass college, and they don't spell half of their words right and studer alot while talking. if their future job requires them to be intellegent, then whos to say they'll get the job.
there are times where i have found myself using text format when writing a paper, and i know that if i went all the way through school with out a cell phone and texting just became a big thing, then i could only imagine what it is going to do to younger kids, who are getting cell phones by the time they are in grade school. one example is my younger sister is in 6th grade and was talking about a girl getting her phone taken away in the middle of class. when i was that age i never would've thought about having or taking my cell phone to school.
i think that schools should really focus on their students reading and writing skills when they are young and continue it all the way up through high school. writing is a big part of anyones life and shouldn't be taken lightly.

Sun Worshipper

An estimated 30 million Americans have turned to indoor sun bathing when the weather is to bad for outdoor sun bathing. Well, alot of people are against this. Many dermatologists are putting messages out there that there has been an increase of melanoma and if you go around to different doctors offices, or just read around, there are brochures against tanning, and facts about an increase in skin cancer. Well, if anyone was to do some proper sun bathing research, then they would see that most of it is just a scare.
Sure there have been cases where tanning, indoor and outdoor, have led to the cause of cancer. But if the person has skin cancer that runs through their family, then sure, tanning would help increase their chances at getting it. But if people were to tan the "smart" way, then it would help to prevent cancer. What i mean by the smart way is that indoor tanning helps prevent sunburn. Since tanning is natural for a person's body, helping prevent sunburn, that may sometimes come along with outdoor tanning, it may help skin from becoming permanently scarred or damaged. Also, tanning salons teach people how their skin type will react to the UV rays, and will only allow a person to go for a certain amount of time, depending on their skin type.
Tanning also has health benifits. Did you know that Humans make 90 percent of their vitamin D from sun exposure? And that UVB rays produce vitamin D, which is healthy for a person's skin. I think that everyone should look past the scared of tanning and give it a chance. It's not as bad as some people make it out to be, as long as tan in moderation. I absolutely love tanning, and it's not just the idea of being tan, it's also actually extremely relaxing as well!

Entry 2: yourself as a writer

I have always found writing to be long and stressful. When i was younger i can remember the writings always being stories. Teachers would always assign us to make up fictional stories and then encourage us to put them in the schools writing contests. Then as i got older, papers started becoming harder. In high school is when i began doing research papers and that i when i started to hate writing papers.
Now a days i can do all kinds of writings. This is my second semester of English at ICC and i think this semester is going to be extremely different than the first class. the first semester was strictly just paper writing. That's all we did from the first week in to the last week of class. They all ranged from us picking what we wrote about, to being assigned different topics. Also over the summer i took a communications class and that was even way more different than any writing class I've been in. That class consisted of presenting our research in speech form. Also, i think that taking notes for other classes helps in becoming a better writer. It allows you to write and that helps with learning and it teaches people new words in order to help with writing. Besides writings i do in school i do plenty of writing out side of school. I am a waitress and that also involves a decent amount of writing. I am constantly writing down orders and if I'm not the waitress for the night, then i am on the register and people have what we call "points" and they can use that on food, so i write down their names.
I am a big person when it comes to my social life. I love being around people, hanging out with my friends and relaxing with my family. But now a days the only way people get a hold of people is through text messaging. Even though text messaging is sent in today's "lingo", it is still a form of writing.
The biggest audience I've written for has always just been my past and present teachers. Usually papers are usually a big part of a students grade so the influences that the teachers leave on me as a student leave me in panic. They always make me feel stressed and nervous about how i am going to do. Alot of times i feel a little more relaxed when i read it out loud to my mom or have her view over it for me.
I have few different techniques of how i like to write. Sometimes i like writing in my room and i like to just be left alone. If i do it that way then i like to sit in silence or maybe just have some light music playing on my ipod or on my laptop. But sometimes i like to sit around people or in front of the t.v. Sometimes its distracting, but i like to take my time and just sit and i have found that it keeps me from stressing out about what i am writing about. i like to take my writing at a certain space. i like to take my time with the writing and just write my thoughts down along the way and go back over and rethink my thoughts. I would also prefer writing by using Microsoft word because i like the fact that it has automatic spelling and grammar proofing.
I feel like my writing relates to my personality in many ways. When i write papers i feel like i express how i feel and think about situations and that's exactly how i am in real life. I tell people what i feel. So when people tell me how they feel about my writings i respect that because of the fact that's how i am, i tell it as it is. Foe me the hardest thing about writing papers is the research that comes along with it. it's easy to go on the Internet and find facts, but how do you know that its always legitimate? Not only do i worry about that, but also plagiarizing. I feel like i always do a good job at reading through materials, and rewording things but i still don't think i do a well enough job a not plagiarizing. So from this i would love to be able to become a better research paper writer.
